BEING A PANEL MEMBER IN EDINBURGH
The Children's Panel in Edinburgh has around 200 panel members. You must either live or work in Edinburgh in order to sit on hearings, and although you do not need to have previous experience of working with children, you must have an interest in their welfare and the time and commitment to undertake this important role. You should be able to demonstrate that you have some understanding of the kind of difficulties that children and their families face, which might be discussed at children's hearings.
Panel members are asked to commit to two hearings sessions per month although we need you to offer considerably more availability than this so a rota can be drawn up. Panel members should also attend 2-3 local learning and development sessions in addition to the mandatory training per year.
Hearings in Edinburgh are held at the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA), 1 Fountainhall Road, Edinburgh, EH9 2NL. Morning and afternoon sessions are held and these fall within the following approximate times: Monday-Thursday: 9.30am-1pm / 2pm-5.30pm and Friday: 9.30am-1pm (please note there are no sessions on Friday afternoon).
