Del, 31, has been a member of the Children’s Panel for three years.

Del is an operations manager for a security company and applied to become a panel member to give something back to the local community.

He said: "I have always wanted to do something worthwhile to support my local area and be able to see the positive effect it had. The Children’s Panel was a great opportunity to get involved and really make a difference to someone’s life."

Serving on the Children’s Panel has allowed Del to gain a skillset not only beneficial to his work but also to his personal life.

He said: "I am lucky that my employers have been very supportive of my role on the Children’s Panel. Because of the nature of the Children’s Hearings System, decision making and team work are key and my role has enabled me to advance these skills.

"Being on the Children’s Panel has increased my confidence greatly and I believe that my experience has not only improved how I deal with children and others, but has also helped develop my parenting skills.

"I would highly recommend applying to join the Children’s Panel and encourage those considering it to come along to an open evening. It can be tough at times but it is hugely rewarding. You are making a positive change to children’s lives."
